At the 29th International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA) Conference held between 25–28 September 2024, the Cognitive Ergonomics Research Laboratory of Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Maritime Faculty made a scientific contribution with two original papers addressing psychosocial risks and forms of psychological violence in the maritime industry:
- Classification Analysis of Bullying Expressions in Maritime
- Analyzing the Effect of Psychological Violence on Seafarers’ Working Time at Sea
These papers offer a formal classification of mobbing (workplace bullying) in the maritime sector and empirically examine the impact of psychological violence on seafarers’ working duration at sea. Both studies aim to advance the maritime science literature through the lenses of human factors, occupational health and safety, and organizational psychology.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to those who contributed to the organization of the conference, academic stakeholders, industry representatives, and all participants. As the Cognitive Ergonomics Research Laboratory at ITU Maritime Faculty, we reaffirm our commitment to contributing to the development of the maritime field through human-centered research and to promoting a sustainable working environment in the sector through rigorous scientific studies.
